I talked to two mormons today. Two white guys, about my age. They came to the door, and started to talk to me about the Book of Mormon and how Joseph Smith was a prophet.

Submitted by Will Kelly on Fri, 07/01/2005 - 12:45.This week was the Kings Dominion trip. Wow. Was that alot of fun.
We had a great crew of kids come, and a great crew of adults as well. Percy was able to come too, and just in case he got "the call" from Angie, he came separate in his own car.

David threw one of my frisbee golf discs into a lake.

I thought I finished school back in April...
Submitted by Will Kelly on Thu, 06/30/2005 - 11:45.While I did finish my spring semester at the end of April, this week was a "back to school" week for me. Danielle and I volunteered for a day at Chimborazo Elementary. We worked with Mary Kay Avula and her class of kids, who were in kindergarten, if I remember correctly. We worked with the kids and helped to teach them some cursive, some problem solving, probability, and some parts of speech.

What do you call a person who hangs around musicians? A drummer.
Submitted by Will Kelly on Thu, 06/23/2005 - 14:35.Living with David and Tammy is great. Tammy feeds me very well, and David and I get to play music quite often. Tammy jokes around with me a lot, and we get to talk about life in general. David and I are both passionate about music, and it’s role in our lives, and so it’s a great escape to be able to go and play music together. He’ll get on the guitar and sing, and I’ll pound away on the drums. These nights when we play are usually some of the best nights of my week.

I prefer Wisdom to Experience.
Submitted by Will Kelly on Tue, 06/21/2005 - 14:09.This was an interesting week. I had a very tough experience on the bus on Sunday. Basically, with not enough adult help, I was in charge of the kids and they got out of control on the bus. It was frustrating, because they have not completely “bought in” to my authority yet… they don’t quite listen to me when we’re in a large group. I have to have some authority, simply because of the responsibilities that I have for CHAT activities. That will come with more time, but it was a challenge to say the least.

You do what?
Submitted by Will Kelly on Tue, 06/21/2005 - 11:56.Week two, and our grant application is done. Finally. It was a lot of work, but hopefully it will be something that will be of great benefit to CHAT in the future. In short, it was a Department of Health and Human Services grant that could expand the intern program for next summer. I will give myself one small plug, and say that I came up with the potential name for the program (just for the record). That application took an obscene amount of work, but God is good, and so is a day off to compensate.

Went for a walk...
Submitted by Will Kelly on Tue, 06/21/2005 - 11:37.During my first week of living and working in Church Hill, I spent a fair amount of time trying to orient myself around the neighborhood. I spent one afternoon driving many of the main roads and routes that I needed to know, and I spent one morning walking around the block. While I was walking, I was taking pictures of the neighborhood for the CHAT website. I was trying to capture what the neighborhood really is like. Many of the pictures I have seen on the web in different places are obviously trying to portray the Hill’s “good side.” There didn’t seem to be much truth in the images.
