Summer Camp runs for seven weeks and starts the first week following the end of the school year. Leigh Street Baptist Church (517 N. 25th St.) is host to the day camp. Furthermore, CHAT utilizes many homes throughout the community to host small group activities that offshoot from Summer Camp. These locations are monitored by Site Leaders, summer Interns and high school Street Leaders.
Summer Camp activities include arts and crafts, sewing, dance, outdoor recreation, reading, Bible time, worship, lunch and snacks. On Fridays, campers participate in field trips to Pocahontas State Park, Kings Dominion, Virginia Beach, Shalom Farms, the James River and other area parks and playgrounds. Some attend either a day or overnight camping trip to a campsite such as Kerr Lake in North Carolina.
Youth are also given the opportunity to participate in week-long overnight Christian sports and adventure camps SB2W Citikidz, in Boswell, PA, and Camp Hope in Goochland County, VA.
As part of the CHAT ministry, staff raise the bulk of the funds necessary to support the camp. Each camper is responsible for paying $20 or having a parent volunteer eight hours as a means to develop ownership in the program.
