Week Three

This has been a really busy week because it is the first week that the kids have been out of school. This week I have started to spend more time with Imani and I am beginning to learn more about her. I think that I am really going to enjoy spending time with her. It has been nice getting to know her and spending time with her, but it is a challenge to try and become close with someone that you do not know very well. I have also been very challenged because it is clear that no one has been expecting much from Imani and the other high school interns, so the idea of working is very foreign to them and it is very hard to motivate them. I see a lot of potential for her and I pray that she will realize the ways in which she can be a great leader for this community.

Week Two

My second week as an intern has been even more tiring than the first…hahaha! At the beginning of this week we had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Lighthouse. This was a really neat event, because all of the people that support CHAT were there and it was amazing to see how many people support CHAT. Percy and Angie (the founders of CHAT) are members of Third Presbyterian Church and this is where the kids from Church Hill go every Sunday. The connection between Third and CHAT is nothing short of a miracle.

Week One

My first week as an intern with CHAT has been quite exhausting and challenging. I live in the Lighthouse with three other girls, one of which is another intern with CHAT. The other two girls are not interns, but they are on the Board for CHAT. The Lighthouse is CHAT’s headquarters. It is where all of our activities take place and where all of the offices are held. It has taken awhile to get used to my home also being my workplace. CHAT is a relational ministry, so most of the work is building relationships in the community, so kids are always at the house which is wonderful, but it takes awhile to adjust to people always being around.
