College students, church groups, and corporate service groups have spent a day, weekend, or week partnering with CHAT to get involved in the life of the community. These groups have participated in property maintenance and building renovations of tutoring sites and community-use sites, as well as partaking in activities with CHAT youth. Workgroups can also expect to engage in meaningful reflections on social and political issues facing poor urban communities, done in an effort to break down stereotypes and create dialogue for workgroups to continue to consider meaningful ways to engage the poor. Do you have a group that would like to partner with CHAT for a day or week of service? Here are some options and things to consider.
- Saturday Opportunities – Saturdays are generally good days for local groups to come and participate in a day of service. A one day trip generally consists of a tour of the community, service work, and potentially an activity with the youth.
- Weeklong Opportunities – In March, we set aside time to host college spring break trips. In addition, weeklong service opportunities are available for church groups during the summer. Week long guests can expect CHAT to provide housing during their stay and participate in work projects, daily devotionals, and summer day camp activities with our youth.
- Costs – The fees associated with each workgroup are based upon the age and size of the group as well and duration of the trip. These fees help to cover to cost of facilitating the group, funding the project or youth engagement work being done, and other programmatic costs CHAT incurs. Contact our workgroup coordinator determine the exact fees.
