This past week and a half has been quite busy for CHAT. Last Monday, we started the STEP Vacation Bible School (VBS) which went for the entire week. Our interns were doing a skit for the younger children there so it took much of the time during the week in order to help them learn their parts. While this certainly was taxing on the high school interns it was equally taxing on the college interns. It frustrated me continuously but with God's strength and grace we got through it all. Since the VBS was from 3-6 every day we had to cancel tutoring and CHEX (Church Hill Exercise). Then on Saturday we left for a camping trip down in North Carolina at Camp Kerr Lake. For most of the time I was exhausted but it was also relaxing in an interesting sort of way.

Week 3
Submitted by Ryan Manion on Mon, 06/25/2007 - 18:55.This past week in CHAT, some crazy things have happened. We managed to move in most of a $30,000 kitchen into the lighthouse this past week that was donated to CHAT by the Strange's. We don't have everything installed yet, as in the sink, dishwasher, oven, and cooktop but we are in the process of moving all the food back into cabinets. As of now, the lighthouse is still a wreck with things being everywhere but that should all be resolved soon.

Week 2 (backdated)
Submitted by Ryan Manion on Thu, 06/21/2007 - 13:53.My second week as a CHAT intern was much like my first, full of planning. Monday all the interns had a meeting with Carolyn and we talked about being flexible with time, discipline issues with the kids, food issues, and other pertinent issues to living throughout the summer. Monday and Tuesday also were full of the normal tutoring routine as well. Wednesday was rather uneventful, but Shelby, Terrell, Tiffany, and myself tried to work out our life skills lessons as well as what we are planning to do with the interns for a Bible Study. I also took 3 high school kids to a free concert at St. James Episcopal Church.

Week 1 (backdated)
Submitted by Ryan Manion on Thu, 06/21/2007 - 13:52.This past week (from June 4 to June 10) in CHAT, we moved into our homes and I am living with another intern named Terrell who goes to the Roc (Richmond Outreach Center) school of Urban Ministry (RSUM). We also met all the kids at tutoring which happens every Monday and Tuesday. In addition to that, we met our high school interns for the summer (the Street and City leaders) who are Steven (the one I am paired with), Tamon, Imani, Aundrea, Stuart, and Rashad.
