Camp Rock!

I'm am so excited because this was the first full week of our day camp.  I think the title of my blog describes well what I thought of the past week.  Although we might not all be busting out in song and dance every five minutes (although there is definately some pumped up Ice Cream and Cake time), our camp definately rocked it out this week.  Although I fully admit that I am wiped at the end of the day, I am truly enjoying the diverse activities that I participate in- even the extras outside of day camp like my mentor and mentoree meetings, attending church with some of the kids today to represent CHAT, and morning devotions.  There is so much to take in sometimes it is hard to know what to reflect on.

This past week though I actually had to do quite a bit of reflecting to fulfill my school credit requirements.  Since I mainly reflected on the relationships that I am establishing, I think that that is what I am going to continue with.  The more I live in Church Hill the more I enjoy all the people I get to know.  It amazes me sometimes how people from such diverse backgrounds can come together and create such sweet community.  There are people from all over the States and at different places in their lives, but we share one common bond in Christ and seeing his mission come to fruition here in Church Hill.

I think one of the great reasons for success here in Church Hill is the recognition that we are all part of the body of God but are different parts with different functions to perform in order to see that body thrive.  I love how we capitalize on people's strengths from those with musical talent or dancing talent to physical labor.  I think I realized this week how important communication between all the parts is to the sucess of the body.  There needs to be communication between interns, street leaders, directors, campers, and local community members.  Only through open communication can things get done and change occur.  We first and foremost need to be listening to each other and then from that take action.  If an issue is not properly diagnosed, it can never be properly corrected- this applies from big issue like racial reconciliation all the way down to logistically issues like picking up the kids on the bus.

I'm not sure where this blog is exactly headed and honestly this week an old Aggie saying seems to apply to the situation- from the outside looking in you can't understand it and from the inside looking out you can't explain it.  Right now I'm not sure how to fully explain my experience but I'm working on it. For the moment just know that it's more than I could've imagined and it stretching me in ways that I couldn't imagine and I'm just happy being here.  Camp is the mountain built of many rocks that make it so amazing.
