This week was centered around an inner-city Church Vacation Bible School (VBS). We would take the Church Hill kids to Eternity Church each day from 3-6pm, where they would join 80-90 other kids for Bible instruction, story-telling, crafts, recreation and music. I personally enjoyed the music because I got to play with Gordon and Laura Ann Boyd, and the kids would jump up and down and dance around. They were so lively; I only hope that the worship aspect will start to work on their hearts and draw them to Jesus.
Another great occurrence to witness was the mingling between our inner-city street leaders and the young leaders from the suburbs. They come from such different backgrounds, yet they quickly became friends, and now they go up to each other at Church services every Sunday to chat with one another. I think the VBS was a great catalyst for forming relationships between people from urban and suburban areas; most of the group leaders were mothers from the west end of Richmond. I really enjoyed getting to know them and I hope to continue those relationships and keep a balance between our Church's missions in both the city and the suburbs. I feel God has a heart for both places, and that both offer unique qualities that can enrich the other. I hope to continue to learn more about how this can become a reality.
