The school year starts on Tuesday, September 4th and we are gearing up for back to school! We just welcomed in five year long interns for the 2012-2013 school year. Also, CHAT is adding another after school tutoring site for the 2012-2013 school year at 1414 N 22nd St (the home of Kathi Picton). We will need lots of volunteer support to help our growth and we will be hosting two volunteer orientation trainings next week. See below for more information.
VOLUNTEER ORIENTATIONS: Want to get involved and volunteer with CHAT in the fall? Are you a current volunteer but have never attended an orientation or want to learn more about the purposes to our programs? We will be hosting volunteer orientations on Monday August 27th and Tuesday, August 28th from 5 to 7 PM @ CHAT’s Resurrection House (3021 N St). Choose 1 of the 2 sessions. All new volunteers are encouraged to attend and existing volunteers are welcome. Please RSVP to [email protected] if you plan to come.
THE COLOR RUN: The Color Run is coming to Richmond on September 15th and is partnering with CHAT! For each person that registers for this 5k event, $1 will go to CHAT. Please consider registering for this awesome event to support CHAT! Runners of all skill levels are welcome. Sign up here! We are also recruiting volunteers to help on race day. Please contact Caitlin Barnes ([email protected]) if you’re interested in helping out.
WACKY WEDNESDAY’S LIFE SKILL CLASSES: CHAT is seeking volunteers for the following after-school electives for our Wacky Wednesday program: Art, Photography, Sewing, Workshop, Outdoors, Boy’s Basketball, Girl’s Basketball, Home Economics, Squash, Hip Hop Dance, Cooking, Homework Help, Newspaper. It is a 12-week commitment with classes running every Wednesday between September 12th and December 12th (excluding November 21st). Please contact Murray Withrow ([email protected]), if interested.
SHALOM FARMS: Can you help with CHAT’s healthy food initiative? CHAT needs volunteers to help pick up fresh vegetables from Shalom Farms for our tutoring snack each week. Individuals or groups can sign up to help on any of the following Saturdays: September 1, 8, 15, 22. October 6, 13, 20, 27. November 3, 10. If interested, contact Murray Withrow ([email protected]). Volunteers can help harvest the vegetables, or simply pick them up
AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING: Back to school is right around the corner! On Labor Day (Monday, September 3rd), CHAT will be hosting a back to school cookout at the Resurrection House (3021 N St) from 5 to 7 PM. After school tutoring will resume on Tuesday, September 4th at six different home locations: Lighthouse (601 N 31st St), Oakwood (1507 Oakwood Ave), Chimbo Palace (706 Chimborazo Ave), Twenty Spot (1309 N 20th St), HS Mix (1130 N 28th St), and a new site location, the Beach House (1414 N 22nd St) and continue every Monday and Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 PM (in most cases). We are expecting 100+ kids to be attending tutoring and desire to have a 1-to-1 student to adult tutor ratio. Please consider getting involved by volunteering once a week at tutoring this semester.
CHURCH HILL ACADEMY: Church Hill Academy will begin its 2012-2013 school year on Tuesday, September 4th at the Peter Paul Development Center. Below are some additional needs:
