Doug is a Richmond native, educated at St. Christopher’s School, Hampden-Sydney College and the Law School of the University of Virginia. He has been a lawyer with Sands Anderson Marks & Miller for 35 years and concentrates in commercial mortgage finance, commercial real estate, contract law and civil litigation, with an emphasis on defending lawyers and real estate professionals. In 1996 Doug served as President of The Virginia Bar Association and has been a member of the Boyd-Graves Conference for twelve years. He is a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and the American Bar Foundation and has been named to Who’s Who in American Law, Best Lawyers in America, Virginia’s Legal Elite and Virginia Super Lawyers. Doug is the Vice-Chairman for the Board of Directors of The James River Development Corporation, a member of the Advocacy and Public Relations Committee for Venture Richmond, a member of the Board of Directors of Needles Eye Ministries and a member of the Finance Committee for The John Marshall Foundation. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Richmond Christian Leadership Institute and as a Shepherd for RCLI’s sessions. Doug has one daughter, Meredith, who lives with her husband Chris in Alexandria and works in public relations. Doug and his wife Marian live in Church Hill and are members of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Doug attends East End Fellowship Services at Franklin Military Academy. He enjoys historic preservation, reading (especially history), travel and hanging out at Captain Buzzy’s Beanery with his faithful canine companion Lucy.
