What is Church Hill Academy? We are a private, Christian faith-based, nonprofit high school and part of Church Hill Activities & Tutoring (CHAT). We offer classes needed to complete 9-12th grade. Our ratio is 3 students to every 1 teacher. There is a yearly fee of $50 per student to attend Church Hill Academy.
What kind of high school is Church Hill Academy? Our top priority is meeting the academic needs of at-risk 9-12th grade youth living in Church Hill and reducing the area’s dropout rate. Scripture reading, prayer and worship are a part of our school schedule, but students are not required to be or become Christians. We are in the process of becoming accredited, offer courses necessary to fulfill Virginia’s graduation requirements, provide individualized and holistic education, as well as a safe and engaging environment for learning.
What are the school’s goals? Church Hill Academy has two overall goals:
(1) To develop each student academically, beginning with their actual academic skill levels, and
(2) To develop each student’s character (for example: work ethic, spiritual understanding, anger management, psychological development, etc.). A student’s grades and classroom performance are evaluated each week and shared with students. Behavior, especially the ability to humbly accept authority, confess wrongs, and ask forgiveness, is vital. Attendance is required. More than three absences in a quarter, excused or unexcused, may result in dismissal.
Where is the school located? We hold classes at the Peter Paul Development Center at 1708 North 22nd Street. CHAT’s offices are located at 601 North 31st Street.
