After impressing a panel of 5 interviewers, Church Hill Academy Senior, Ashawrie White, received a full ride to James Madison University as a Centennial Scholar. With Romans 8:18 in her heart, she plans to study sports medicine or business, minor in dance, then eventually start her own dance studio. Ashawrie talks about the impact of Marketplace Day and gives advice to rising seniors below!
"There were 5 people sitting at a table in front of me. I shook each of the interviewer’s hands before responding to each question. As I was talking they were taking notes of my responses. At the end of the interview they asked me if I had any questions and I gave them my resume.
Marketplace Day helped me with my professional skills such as, eye contact, attire, resume, answering questions and firm hand shakes. I had at least 3 copies of my resume and I knew background information about the Centennial Program. Church Hill Academy and Marketplace Day helped me overcome being shy, made me a better public speaker and really prepared me for the real world."
Ashawrie gives advice to rising seniors:
"Do not half step anything. Make sure you keep track of deadlines, take classes seriously, do all your classwork and stay back for tutoring. Stay focused on your education and maintaining a good GPA.
It is very important that you surround yourself with positive people who can encourage you to be successful. You will come across obstacles but during those times you will need to persevere, have self-motivation, determination and never give up.
You cannot feed into the drama and foolishness because it will only distract you. Always ask for help when you need it. You are human so you will make mistakes but you will learn from those mistakes and they will make you better because no one is perfect.
Most importantly, build a relationship with God because it will be life changing. Praying is the most powerful thing you can ever do."
