Hey everyone! This past week at CHAT has been AMAZING in so many ways! The Church Hill community is so welcoming and kind that I feel as though I am at home already. No one hesitates to return a genuine greeting and smile at any time. :)
This past Saturday I had to go back to my family’s house in the west end and it felt really weird and somewhat uncomfortable driving there. I had a strong urge not to go because I truly wanted to spend more time with the interns and be in Church Hill. As I was heading back to Church Hill on Sunday, I immediately felt comfort and relief because I knew I was heading back to my new home. It’s crazy how one’s opinion of “home” can change in such a short amount of time.
In only one week, I have already learned so much not only about the Church Hill community, but also about the Lord. Something that has really stuck with me this past week is that I am here not to help, but to SERVE. It’s funny, because before arriving in Church Hill I remember using the words “help” and “serve” interchangeably to describe the work that I would be doing this summer. Now, I know that I cannot help, but only serve. Also, I am consistently reminding myself that I am not here to please others or myself…I am here only for the Lord by serving others so as to bring glory to His name. The Lord wants each and every one of us to come into a relationship with Him. He is there, waiting for us. All we need to do is meet and accept Him because in Isaiah 58:9 it says, “Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.” This verse has given me immense comfort and strength the past couple of days because it exemplifies God’s omnipresence and His gracious willingness to answer our cries. He desires more and more from us. We can give Him this by serving others and showing the love of Christ to make Him known. I cannot wait to learn more about the Lord, grow closer to Him, and give more to Him by serving the Church Hill community!
